Professor Hammock long co-taught (with Professor DiClerico) the Department's popular introductory course in American Government, as well as courses in public policy. He also taught a political simulation capstone course and an American Government course for the WVU Honors college. He is the co-author of West Virginia Politics and Government (Nebraska, 1996), the co-editor of Points of View: Readings in American Government and Politics 9th edition (McGraw-Hill 2004), and has written book chapters on West Virginia interest groups and parties. His published articles have appeared in Politics and Policy and South Now. He has received outstanding teaching awards from the department, college, and university. He was also the chair of the West Virginia State Election Commission. Professor Hammock previously served as the Chair of the Department from 1984 to 2005, and was associate department chair from 1975 to 1984.
