Professor Hammock long co-taught (with Professor DiClerico) the Department’s popular introductory course in American Government, as well as courses in public policy. He now teaches a political simulation “capstone” course and the American government course for the WVU Honors College. He is the co-author of West Virginia Politics and Government (Nebraska, 1996), the co-editor of Points of View: Readings in American Government and Politics 9th edition (McGraw Hill, 2004), and has written book chapters on West Virginia interest groups and parties. His published articles have appeared in Politics and Policy and South Now. He has received outstanding teaching awards from the department, college, and university. He also is Chair of the West Virginia State Election Commission. In 2005, Professor Hammock stepped down as Chair of the Department of Political Science, having served in that position from 1984 and, prior to that, associate department chair from 1975.
